SUMA organised an environmental awareness-raising event at the APCC – Coimbra Cerebral Palsy Association, involving service users, trainees and staff from the organisation in a day dedicated to sharing knowledge about recycling, waste sorting and more sustainable practices in everyday life.
The initiative forms part of SUMA’s commitment to engaging with local communities and promoting environmentally responsible behaviour, with a focus on inclusive awareness-raising initiatives tailored to different audiences.
Throughout the sessions, a range of topics related to waste production and management were discussed, encouraging participants to reflect on small behavioural changes that can make a difference in their daily lives. Among the topics explored were the correct separation of materials, reuse, recycling and the distinction between waste and resources.
In a participatory environment, characterised by curiosity and the exchange of experiences, the sessions sought to clarify doubts, stimulate new questions and reinforce the importance of more conscious choices, both in an institutional and personal context.
The initiative was part of the SEMEAR programme (SEparar, MElhorar, preservAR), developed by APCC at Quinta da Conraria, an initiative that promotes the adoption of more sustainable practices and highlights the role of each individual in preserving the environment.
SUMA would like to thank APCC for the opportunity to collaborate on this initiative, which reinforces the importance of environmental awareness as a tool for inclusion, participation and the building of more sustainable communities.
